Texas Bar Exam Results Released
High Pass Rate for First-Time Takers
The Texas Board of Law Examiners (TBLE) has released the results of the February 2023 Texas Bar Exam. The overall pass rate for first-time takers was 87%, an increase from the 83% pass rate in February 2022. Of the 2,234 first-time takers, 1,943 passed the exam.
Repeat Takers Show Improvement
The pass rate for repeat takers also showed an improvement, rising from 65% in February 2022 to 72% in February 2023. Of the 1,063 repeat takers, 765 passed the exam.
Overall Pass Rate Remains High
The overall pass rate for all takers, including first-time takers and repeat takers, was 82%, slightly higher than the 81% pass rate in February 2022. Of the 3,297 total takers, 2,708 passed the exam.
Diverse Group of New Attorneys
The TBLE also noted that the new attorneys represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Women made up 52% of the first-time takers and 51% of the overall takers. Minority groups made up 42% of the first-time takers and 40% of the overall takers.

The high pass rate and diverse group of new attorneys are a positive sign for the future of the Texas legal profession. These new attorneys will bring a wealth of knowledge, skills, and perspectives to the state's legal system.
